Zeiterion Performing Arts Theatre
684 Purchase St, New Bedford, MA 02740

We will be getting married followed by dinner & dancing at The Zeiterion Theatre. Situated in the middle of historic Downtown New Bedford, this theatre is steeped in beauty and history.
On April 2, 1923, New Bedford opened its last new theatre in the city’s downtown area –The Zeiterion. Built for the, “live performance of vaudeville,” this two-story, brick building was designed in the Georgian Revival style. Marble columned walls dominate the lobby, a frieze of gold leaf Grecian figures, and a cut-glass Czechoslovakian chandelier at its center.

Later it became a film house and five movie world premieres were held here; most notably was the 1956 opening of “Moby Dick” with star Gregory Peck in attendance.
The Zeiterion held its gala re-opening on September 25, 1982 starring Shirley Jones in concert. Since then, The Z has been restored to its original grandeur and is currently a live theatre venue—not to mention a one-of-a-kind wedding venue for us! Providing historic charm, The Z is the perfect blend of old and new, matching our artistic tastes of rustic vintage and modern industrial. We can’t wait to share its magic with you!
